50 years of Pink Floyd’s – The Dark Side Of The Moon

The Dark Side of the Moon is one of the most critically acclaimed albums and frequently appears on best album lists. It brought Pink Floyd international fame and fortune and recognition for all four band members. The Dark Side of the Moon was certified 1x platinum in the UK and topped the US Billboard Top LPs and Tapes chart, where it spent 972 weeks on the chart. In 2012, the Library of Congress chose it for preservation in the United States National Register of Recordings as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

The band used multi-track recording, tape loops and analogue synthesizers, including experiments with the EMS VCS 3 and Synthi A. Engineer Alan Parsons was responsible for many aspects of the sound and the recruitment of outstanding singer Clare Torry on “The Great Show in the Sky.” The Dark Side of the Moon was recorded at EMI Studios between 31 May 1972 and 9 February 1973. The Dark Side of the Moon is the eighth studio album by English Pink Floyd, released by Harvest Records on 1 March 1973. As of 2013, The Dark Side of the Moon has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling album of the 1970s and the third best-selling album of all time.
